This weekend we stayed at Dan Machian's farm. It is on the north fork of Long Island right on the cusp of wine country (which we visited and subsequently pillaged). Though it was frigid (think harvesting potatoes in Russia for vodka), the animals were out in full force, anxious to feed and nuzzle our icy little mits.
The duck was clearly in charge. Turkeys are idiots.
A baby pig's nose is like a velvet curtain at the opera.
Egg wash. literally.
There was compost: outdoors and indoors.
This male was put in the pen to "fertilize," if you know what I mean.
Rabbit was for dinner. Prepared of course by the galloping gourment, Anne Daly, who courageously removed its heart prior to prepping.
And then proudly photographed...
If you are interested in Dan Machian's farm, or the produce/succulent meats it produces, visit it's booth at the McCarren Park Famer's Market, Saturdays dawn - 1pm. Thats right, you have to get up BEFORE 1PM to make it! Farmer's Markets are not for the weak or the lazy!
