Check out the motley crew that assembled for the Belmont Stakes this year. VIPs. Couldn't think of a better crew - spirits were high, everyone was eager to gamble and no one actually knew what they were doing. On the car ride to the race track we research how to bet on horse racing. I feel like everyone was acting like they understood it, but I'm guessing no one actually did based on the day's results. Pictured from left to right - Chris, Brian, Tim, Paul, Jordan.
Our driver was great. Paul latched on to him quickly and got his card. When the stakes were over, Paul called him and he came and got us. He seemed to like us but in hindsight I'm positive he thought he was driving a bunch of frivolous retards to a meaningless event.
RACE FACE!
Tim considering his options.
Studying the guide, which was a text book of confusing symbols and numbers. I trusted they knew what was up and at one point Paul, Jordan and I all bet on the same horses in a trifecta and lost 100 dollars between the three of us.
It was really rainy and Paul complained the entire time. Paul, Deanna is a saint.
This orange lady was smoking a baby cigar and drinking bottled water. I bet she drove her trailer up from Florida for this event. Class Act.
I thought this was a joke, but when I got home I googled Jockies and its basically the most dangerous profession in the world.
I was sitting on this bench too and was extremely ill. I couldn't stop coughing and was fighting multiple infections with anti-biotics (thanks restaurant work!) and at one point I slumped over and put my head between my legs. Some stupid blond girls who were probably there looking for husbands passed by and saw me and laughed, 'LOOK HOW DRUNK THAT GIRL IS!!!!' When you are twenty five, married with a toddler on your hip and one in the oven living in Gainsville, the joke will be on you, assholes!
Honestly, this guy. The day was NOT a success. It rained and no one won money. The drinks were extremely expensive and we ate raw chicken tenders, but Jordan shined like a little star through all the madness. Jordan, I will go anywhere with you, whenever you want. What a champ!

The S.S. Workout
Workout had a show on a boat and everyone was in appropriately high spirits for the high seas.
None of my sailor gear really fits anymore (whoops!) but there were definitely some fancy dressers ready for cocktails on the yacht.
You just cant fake this sort of enthusiasm!
Pre-gaming with a little top forty, I'm sure.
Its been a while since I've seen all our friends in the daylight. With summer upon us and BBQ season knocking on our doors, I expect to see more of everyone's pores, scars and imperfections but honestly it was WONDERFUL not being in a bar at 2am or in a house filled with Camel Light smoke or in a cab racing somewhere drunk. We got to see eachother. In the day light. On a boat. It was a really big treat.
People in general look healthier on boats too.
And then workout played.....
Annnnnnnnd! Handsome Jim managed to crowd surf!
Thanks again Workout for providing us with such a fine evening!

Korean Kristmas
The orphans gathered at Chris's house for a Korean BBQ Christmas dinner. We ate 20,000 Weight Watchers points worth of Korean food.
There was so much food and so many people that we had to hit the buffet in waves. I was in group two with all the other cool kids.
After dinner was a Lakers game. I dont know what happened there because I was eating thirds, fourths, fifths....you get the idea. I dont think they won though? Adam had a court side seat.
Tired, Full, Supportive. What use is a roommate if you cant put your head in their lap for a snooze?
AND THEN! The white elephant gift exchange. The best part of the night. So many gifts displayed appealingly on Dara's fully clothed (too bad!) body. Hard not to get grabby.
Good Work, Dara!
Double Kurland Icing! So many activities this holiday season!
When everyone left, I took off my pants and watched The Proposal starring Sandra Bullock. I had a seventh dinner around 1am and finally called it quits.
Now its on to Sober January! Wish me luck!

Some shots early on set the evening's mood: Whiskey.

Do You Ever Click The Links On My Blog?
We all know Born Tired and Catacomb Homes, but do you guys ever click on that cute little 50 Back Flips icon? Because that 'cute little icon' is basically your daily dose of Ansel Adams on Built To Spill. Seriously:

We have a lot of friends who take pictures of pretty city kids and those are all glamorous, but John's shots really make me feel like my life is passing me by in my cubicle. NATURE DOES NOT AWAIT US! Rather the opposite: Its turning to dust! In the morning I drink my coffee, look at the pics on John's blog and plot my next escape. This man does amazing things with a camera and to use a comfy cliche, his shots are worthy of a thousand words AND awards. I look at his pictures and I crave trail heads, wet shoes and back packs full of collected rocks. Thanks, John!

Long Live Parties With Rules!!!
Jim's Birthday Party had rules. The number one rule was all attendees had to wear Gear. In a moment of bad judgement, Jim let me wear his Vikings jacket. Later in the evening, he realized the mistake he had made, but didn't know how to handle the situation, so he had to have Liz act as his proxy and confront me. She said she had to take the jacket in question back and offered me a blue and green one instead that fit me better! We both won in this situation!
Rule number two - all attendees had to be hot. I mean, really? This goes without saying. but there were two models from Italian Vogue there, so I thought I would post their picture above.
